I've been writing since I was a junior in high school, and I started to develop my own game material seven or eight years ago. Only recently has my work seen any official publication. My portfolio (as it is) consists of web sites which contain my own original and derivative works for the games I play (or have played), web publication of articles in online web 'zines and the like, and works have been "professionally" published.

Upcoming Releases

Terror in Talabheim (Black Industries, August 2006)
Terror in Talabheim is an adventure and city sourcebook that was written in support of Children of the Horned Rat. My task was to help detail Talabheim, as well as flesh out the city's history.

Children of the Horned Rat (Black Industries, May 2006)
This is a supplement for Warhammer Fantasy Role Play that details all aspects of the nefarious Skaven. Written by myself, Rob Schwalb, and Steve Darlington, it marks my first work for the WFRP product line.

Legends of Shadow (Fantasy Flight Games, April 2006)
This sourcebook details the epic characters – the movers and shakers – of Eredane, specifically the Night Kings and Aradil, the Witch Queen. My task was to detail Aradil.

Professional Work

Star and Shadow

Shadowspawn's Guide to Sanctuary

Thieves' World Players Manual

Hungry Little Monsters

Artifacts of the Ages: Legendary Weapons

Artifacts of the Ages: Rings

Hammer and Shadow (Fantasy Flight Games, December 2005)
As might be guessed from the title, Hammer and Shadow is all about the dwarves that inhabit the dark world of Midnight. I had the pleasure of writing about dwarf history and culture, as well as a few other tidbits here and there.

Star and Shadow (Fantasy Flight Games, October 2005)
My first contribution to the excellent Midnight campaign setting. This book details the Sarcosans, the people who inhabit southern Eredane. I wrote the section of history.

Template Troves III: Diseases, Parasites, and Symbiotes (Silverthorne Games, late 2005)
When I told Sean I was writing the third installment of the Template Troves series, he replied, "Wow! I'm a trend-setter!" After all, he single-handedly wrote the first volume. TTIII is a project containing 20 (or more) new and unique templates that are related to diseases, parasites, or symbiotes.

Shadowspawn's Guide to Sanctuary (Green Ronin Publishing, 2005)
In addition to the work I did on the Thieves' World Players Manual, I also contributed to the upcoming Shadowspawn's Guide to Sanctuary. Shadowspawn's Guide is a comprehensive gazetteer for the city of Sanctuary throughout both of the major eras.

Future Players Companion (The Game Mechanics, 2005)
Future Players Companion (Green Ronin Publishing, 2005)
In the tradition of the popular Modern Players Companion, the Game Mechanics released a three-volume series of books that are geared towards d20 Future.

Thieves' World Player's Manual (Green Ronin Publishing, Summer 2005)
Green Ronin is releasing a series of d20 RPG books that detail the Thieves' World fantasy anthology series. I contributed to two volumes in the series.

Hungry Little Monsters (Sean K. Reynolds Games, April 2005)
Hungry Little Monsters is a charity project that is the brainchild of Sean K. Reynolds. It features over 40 original monsters for use with the d20 rules, and two of the monsters therein were developed by myself.

Temple Quarter: A City Quarters Sourcebook (Green Ronin Publishing, Summer 2005)
Temple Quarter: A City Quarters Sourcebook (The Game Mechanics, March 2005)
As with Thieves' Quarter, I did a little bit of additional design for the second installment of the City Quarters series. Available as an electronic product at RPG Now, it will likely see release as a print product from Green Ronin Publishing.

Artifacts of the Ages: Legendary Weapons (The Game Mechanics, October 2004)
Legendary Weapons is a compilation of artifacts that were created by several writers and developers. I was asked to write up a weapon for this product, and I was more than happy to comply. For a complete list of authors, please see the product page.

Fireborn Player's Handbook (Fantasy Flight Games, August 2004)
Fireborn Gamemaster's Handbook (Fantasy Flight Games, October 2004)
Fireborn is a new role-playing game that uses a unique task resolution system known as Dynamic D6. The Player's Handbook debuted at GenCon Indy. The premise is that the PCs are dragons who have been reincarnated into the bodies of modern day humans. They must discover their past lives through a combination of modern role-playing and extended mythic age flashback.

Artifacts of the Ages: Rings (Green Ronin Publishing, October 2004) - print version
Artifacts of the Ages: Rings (The Game Mechanics, August 2004) - electronic version
I consider myself very fortunate to have had the opportunity to co-author this d20 fantasy supplement with JD Wiker. Like its predecessors, Swords of the Fathers and Staves of Ascendance, this product details several magical artifacts (in the form of rings, as well as other types of jewelry) that grow in power as its owner progresses in level.

Thieves' Quarter: A City Quarters Sourcebook (Green Ronin Publishing, 2004) - print version
Thieves' Quarter: A City Quarters Sourcebook (TGM, 2004) - electronic version
The additional design that I provided for this TGM sourcebook stemmed from a web freebie I'd written for them. In May 2004, Green Ronin published a print version of Thieves' Quarter.

Magazine Articles

"Ord Vaxal: Prison Planet of the Empire" (Dungeon #106/Polyhedron #165)
Ord Vaxal started as the setting of my first d20 Star Wars campaign. A short time after Star Wars RPG content began appearing in the pages of Dungeon/Polyhedron, I contacted the editor and pitched the idea of my prison planet. The rest is, as they say, history.

Web Enhancements

Secrets of Tethys Part 1 & Part 2 (Fantasy Flight Games, 2005)
Most of the work I did on the Fireborn RPG was related to the world of the Mythic Age. Not everything made the final release, and that includes details on Tethys. Tethys is a land of hunters, and FFG has posted two web enhancements about Tethys using some of the material that I originally wrote.

The Lover's Quarrel (The Game Mechanics, 2004)
Following this link will lead you to The Lover's Quarrel, a piece I wrote as a web freebie for The Game Mechanics' "Thieves' Quarter" product. It details The Lover's Quarrel, a shop that sells bows, arrows, bolts, and all manner of archery-related gear. There's also an expanded list of new ammunition types suitable for just about any d20 game.

"The Goblin Fey Hunter" (The Game Mechanics, 2003)
I wrote the Goblin Fey Hunter prestige class for my friends at The Game Mechanics, intending it as a web freebie to promote "Cromagh's Guide to Goblinoids." The Mechanics were kind enough to give it a neat layout and some original artwork (by Stan!), and I'm quite proud of the results.

Web 'Zines and Amateur Publications

I've seen print in two web-based publications: Action Check and the Star Wars Online Journal.

Action Check
Action Check was a superb web 'zine written in support of the late lamented Alternity game line. I can't say enough good things about Action Check and the people behind it. Likewise, I can't adequately express my feeling of regret that it is no longer being produced. Three of my Alternity articles saw print in Action Check, one of which ("Grid Cops and Bug Hunters") I had originally submitted to Dragon Magazine while the Alternity line was in production.

Issue #14

The Star Wars Online Journal
The Online Journal is meant to fill the holes left by the "Star Wars Adventure Journal" and Star Wars Gamer magazine. It does a good job of that, steadfastly supporting both the D6 and d20 editions of the Star Wars RPG. The material in the Online Journal is created by fans, for fans, and it stands as a testament to many talented writers and artists in the online Star Wars community.

My only complete contribution to the Online Journal was "Get in the Ring" (which was re-titled "Shockboxing Exposed" for Volume 2, Issue 3). "Get in the Ring" was an article I had originally written as a submission to Star Wars Gamer magazine, but I didn't finish it until after Gamer had ceased production. I felt that with a bit of polish, it would do well in the Online Journal.

Web Sites & Web Content

There are at least three web sites that I have had a substantial hand in assembling (along with my wife/webmistress), and these are detailed (and linked to) below.

Mockery's CP2020 Page
As far as I know, Mockery's is one of the oldest Cyberpunk 2020 pages around. When we originally put this site up in 1996, it came as a surprise to a lot of people in the online CP community. This was largely due to the fact that we had a lot of original content initially, since we'd been playing and writing about Cyberpunk for a long time.

What you'll find on Mockery's CP2020 are some of my earliest attempts at game design and modification, done using my old BBS handle, "Ocelot." I can't take credit for all of the work there, since my wife (a talented writer in her own right) has also contributed a great deal to the site.

Ocelot's Dark Sun Page
TSR's "Dark Sun" was the setting that renewed my interest in fantasy. While certainly not a typical campaign setting by any stretch of the imagination, Dark Sun took everything that had grated on my nerves in relation to elves and dwarves and made it fun again. This led to my first attempt at running an AD&D game, and the campaign outlasted just about any other game I've ever moderated.

Cerberus Sector
Cerberus Sector is my home-grown Star Wars campaign setting, principally for use with the original D6 rules as written by West End Games. The sector is fully detailed, with planetary descriptions, a sector map, and several alien species and native creatures. Other articles, not necessarily related to Cerberus, can be found here, too.

The Rebellion
The Rebellion, on the other hand, is a web site that is host to faithful conversions of d20 Star Wars material to the D6 rules. I'd been running sessions of the Star Wars Role-Playing Game since it was originally released by West End Games. When Wizards acquired the license to produce Star Wars, I wasn't entirely convinced that d20 was the way to go in relation to the newest edition of Star Wars. This was largely because I had a sizeable amount of D6 material sitting on my book shelf, and I really did like the system a great deal.

In learning to convert d20 to D6, I became very familiar (and, ultimately, comfortable) with the new mechanics. This, in conjunction with conversations with my friend JD Wiker, led me to try my hand at running a few games of the new edition. In the end, I find myself torn between my fondness for the old rules and a profound respect for the new material that is being released.

BJ Zanzibar's World of Darkness Page
This isn't my web site, but it does play host to two (very) modest articles that I wrote many years ago: Bastet's Gifts and the Shamshir of Silent Speed.
