03/19/2005: "New Arrival"
3.24.05
Stephen Paul Astleford was born on Monday, March 21st, at 7:01pm. He weighed in at a hefty 7 pounds, 9 ounces. He's healthy as an ox and has one hell of a set of lungs. Taking care of a newborn is like boot camp for parents. With luck, the sleep deprivation will pay off.
No news for work, except that my work on the second volume of the Future Players Companion is done (sans my art order). Now for volume three!
All for now...
Gary

Two days from now, I will be a father. My son will likely arrive on Monday the 21st, and (as I am so often told by friend, family, and stranger alike) my life will never again be the same. An individual cannot help but be changed by such an event. Creating a life in conjunction with another human being is probably the most profound thing that has ever happened to me. It has taught me a lot about myself, my wife, and our relationship -- and the kid hasn't even been born yet!
More news (and photos, more than likely) once my new master has made his big debut. What manner of havoc will he wreak upon the world once he is unleashed? Only time will tell!
I am currently experiencing a very busy schedule. My life had taken a turn for the boring when, over a month ago, there was little writing to be had. Such a thing could not last, and I have since been thrust into a fever dream of frenzied activity. Between my current creative obligations, the significant restructuring of my life in anticipation of my son's impending arrival, and the demands of my day job (not to mention the occasional foray into Xbox-related virtual violence), I am experiencing a semi-euphoric state that is akin to having my "fast-forward" button depressed (were I a VCR or DVD player).
On the writing front, I continue to provide wordage to the Thieves' World role-playing game, as such requests are provided to me. I am only too happy to comply. The more I see of this product, the more anxious I am to see it released. Good things are always worth waiting for, or so I keep telling myself. If only the afore-mentioned fast-forward button applied to long waits, my life would always be instantly gratifying.
One of those long waits has since come to an end. Temple Quarter was released by The Game Mechanics on March 14th! As with the previously-released Thieves' Quarter, I am proud to have an "Additional Design" credit on this volume. You can buy an electronic copy of Temple Quarter at RPG Now by following this link.
In the meantime, my current schedule is filled with Volumes Two and Three of the up-coming Future Players Companion. I've also got my sights set on another project, but since the details have yet to be finalized, I can say nothing more about it.
That's all for now. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
Bests,
